Counseling helps you see anxiety is not the problem, avoidance is. Take the leap today and begin your therapy journey.

Your journey includes a safe, non-judgmental space to foster awareness through new insights. Then, go beyond learning skills to apply them in your unique context with compassionate accountability.

Often, unintentionally, we are the most significant barrier to living our best lives. Once we can see how we are getting in our way, we learn tools and techniques to step aside and build trust to live the life we deserve.

Whether it’s feeling like things should be different, maybe you know what you should be doing but struggle to follow through, or you’re just one step away from finding relief, getting an objective perspective to connect some new dots often brings to light an unspoken barrier to learn from.

Counseling Services

Ideally, therapy is a personalized experience since everyone has a unique history and world view.

Picture this: you’re sitting on a comfortable couch that has served as a safe space for you to share your struggles, your wants, your needs, and as you experience closure and healing you head out of the office ready to tackle the challenges life has for you.

Imagine: how much better your life could be with supportive compassionate accountability. You likely know the steps to take but mental blocks are getting in the way to your success.

In treatment, I utilize interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Logotherapy.

Commonly, I see people approach counseling from four viewpoints.

  • The structured person who knows what they want to feel better and is eager to explore and grow.

  • The hopeful person who believes in them and needs a safe person to vent to without judgment.

  • The cautious person who believes therapy can help them, yet doesn’t trust easily.

  • The skeptical person who isn’t sure if therapy will work and is willing to bravely step into their journey.

Regardless of your approach, you will experience three things during your counseling journey, beginning with:

  1. Rapport: We will build a connection to ensure we look at your world and how you see it. To solve a problem, we have to take time to learn and accurately identify what issues are causing the problem in the first place.

  2. Challenges: After identifying the issues, we seek to build any skills necessary to help you confront the barriers in your way and feel confident in your decisions to change. Talking and understanding set the stage, but challenges spur into action the necessary behavior change for lasting results. You are not alone in your efforts though!

  3. Intentionality: Many times in life we can feel like we are waiting for the motivation or a feeling of wanting to put effort into our lives. However, for most people, waiting for that time is a hint of perfectionism, and we can grieve the reality that we may not feel motivated or want to do something, yet with committed action, we can intentionally see ourselves becoming heroes in our life’s story.

The other day I had a realization. What may be an everyday moment for me may also be a life-altering moment for someone else. I'm sitting with a client, and we are watercoloring. Who knows what I'm making? I just wipe the brush in different colors and call it abstract art to end the day, haha. I gave them the most difficult challenge they may ever have.

The challenge is to take a big deep breath, and I mean big, which means filling your lungs completely full of air. Then you exhale and repeat, "I'm getting better." The challenge is in perpetuity. This means whenever you feel overwhelmed, take a big deep breath in, and I mean big, and repeat the phrase "I'm getting better." When you have a big win and accomplish something, take a big deep breath in, and I mean big, and again "I'm getting better." When you get out of bed and are not feeling the best, take a deep breath and repeat, "I'm getting better."

This challenge gets easier as you let this be true, accept your growth is your own, and shift your expectations to reflect your values. Much of the in-life conflict comes from conflicting values, either internally or externally. If you abandon the fixed mindset and all-or-nothing mentality, will you accept the growth mindset of "I'm getting better?" In the last six months, have you learned anything about yourself? If so, you've gotten better. Are you accepting the insight that comes with a responsibility to change your behavior? If so, you've gotten better. If you're ready to start getting better, welcome; you're already getting better.

“Vulnerability is not weakness, and the uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure we face every day are not optional. Our only choice is a question of engagement.”
